Job, the first of the six poetical books in the Bible, explains the purpose of suffering. The first chapter of this book shows Job’s character before he suffered. Then, through his sufferings, Job received a revelation of God and His almighty power and a true revelation of himself and his friends. Job experienced fruitfulness after his suffering because he saw himself as he truly was, and he repented.
