Jesus wants us to give our heart to Him so that He can cultivate its fallow ground—its indifference and hardness—and plant within it the Choice Vine of His Blood, His Lilies, and His Honeycomb or Beehive.
This lesson covers the stature concerning the Lilies: (1) Our LORD plants Lilies in our heart so that He can feed among them (Song of Solomon 2:16). The Lilies represent purity of trust, which we must have in order for us to receive anything from God through our channel of faith. (2) Lilies produce myrrh or humility (Song of Solomon 5:13) so that we can take the lowest place and allow God to turn us, to mold us, and to take us in any direction— up or down,—because we are in constant surrender to and in love with His Will. Our LORD likes to walk up and down the gardens of our heart to commune with us. (3) He plants the Lilies in our heart for His pleasure (Song of Solomon 6:2). If we will draw nigh to God, He will draw nigh to us. If we will meditate upon His Humility, we will find that Jesus will be there in the gardens of our heart supping and feeding with us. Then, number (4) Lilies are for girding (Song of Solomon 7:2). Our belly is the fountain head from which flow the Rivers of Living Water; therefore, our pride must be brought under subjection to the Girdle of Lilies. We are not able to minister until our belly has been girded about with Lilies.
The third thing that our LORD plants in the garden of our heart is His Honeycomb or Beehive in which He stores the Sweetness of His Word (Song of Solomon 4:11). God wants the honeybees of desire to be formed in our garden so that we will have a desire for the sweet Nectar of His Word. There is a price for
us to pay for this desire. We cannot waste our time away with the cares of this life and store honey at the same time. It is Jesus for Whom we are looking and are longing. If we will allow Him to store up His wonderful Word in His Honeycomb in the garden of our heart, He will be there to feed with us.
