In Isaiah, chapter 55, the Prophet Isaiah gave an invitation to everyone, both rich and poor, to come to the Waters of God’s Word and to buy, to eat, and to delight. Regardless of how much the Water of God’s Word flows, unless we personally come and partake of it, it will not do us any good. We must do the coming and the buying ourself through repentance. No one else can do our repenting for us. Every time that we repent of things that the LORD has shown us are unlike Him, we eat of Him in a bigger way. Then, we experience delight. The Prophet admonishes us to incline our ear, to come to the LORD, to hear and to obey Him, and to live.
After we have put our ears down in the humble place so that we can hear God’s message, and we have come unto Him, He puts the substance in us that makes us obey. No one really has fully heard unless he has obeyed. When we first begin to obey, we find that miraculous working Power of God’s Life coming forth within us. We must seek and call upon the LORD while it is our season, while He is drawing us, not when it is convenient for us. We must forsake our wicked ways and thoughts and return unto the LORD’s Way. Our flesh is wicked, and if we leave it to itself and allow it to have its way, it will lose its temper, talk ugly, and be bitter and unforgiving. It is a sin for us to go after our way rather than after the Way of the LORD. Just as the natural rain comes down and brings water to the Earth to take away the dryness and to give the bud, the seed, and the bread, so does God’s Word as it comes to us.
God’s thoughts and His Will are revealed to us through His Word. When we reach the place where all we want is what God wants and what pleases Him, there is no discouragement or sadness in us, and we can rejoice in our soul and go forth in peace with the kind of rest and quiet that comes from surrender to God for what He wants. Once we are in this Way, our mountains and hills of difficulty will sing before us, and we will have a song and melody of Christ’s Humility in our heart in the night season that the world cannot give or take away. Then, all the Trees of the field, which represent God’s people, shall clap their hands, and there will be joy and rejoicing because there is real fellowship.
