This message continues our study of the section of Jesus’ Spiritual Tabernacle that belongs to the Table of Shewbread (Matthew 5:13-30) and covers Matthew 5:13 where Jesus said that we are the salt of the Earth. Since salt is a combination of sodium and chlorine and requires both components to exist, it pictures to us the combination of God’s Spirit and His Word that makes us the Spiritual Salt of the Earth. Unless we have both—God’s Spirit and His Word—we will not be that Spiritual Salt. The only place where we can preserve the Salt is in the Holy Place. If we are exposed too much to the things of the world and do not go to the Holy Place, we will lose the strength of the combination of God’s Spirit and His Word. The taste of salt makes us thirsty. When we lose our thirst to be in prayer and in the study of God’s Word, we are in a dangerous condition. This Salt—this hidden Life, Strength, and Love of Jesus—is found in that Bread that is on the Table of Shewbread. If we do not allow God to bind us up and to separate us from the things of the world and to protect us, we will lose the spiritual Salt.
This lesson covers the four great points of Truth that God put in His Word concerning Salt, which help us to understand what our responsibility is in this world. The first thing that salt was used for was a Salt Covenant. In Leviticus 2:13 and Numbers 18:18 and 19, God entered into a Salt Covenant with Israel, and as long as we are in union with God, it is a Covenant of (1) Loyalty, (2) Security, (3) Fidelity, and (4) Durability, which cannot be broken as long as both parties keep their part of the Covenant. It will endure throughout the endless ages. Once we have taken hold of the Salt of the Lamb, that Salt works these assets in our heart, and there is no turning back for us! As we eat this Salty Bread and Salty Meat, it makes us thirsty for Jesus, and the more we drink of Him, the more Bread we have to share with others that will make their hearts thirsty and hungry for Jesus, if we will pass it out. This lesson also covers the stature of Ezekiel 16:4.
