In Luke 19:12-27, Jesus gave the Parable of the Pounds. This whole chapter concerns humility. In the first part, we see Zacchaeus’ conversion, which was a lesson concerning humility. Later, we see how the humble Heart of Jesus wept over Jerusalem after He had spoken this Parable. Jesus had a powerful and triumphant entry into Jerusalem because He knew that He was riding into the city to conquer sin, Death, Hell, and the grave. He knew the suffering that He would go through, and He tried to prepare His Disciples’ hearts with this Parable; however, they were looking for reward and did not understand or they would never have forsaken Him and fled. This Parable pictured Jesus Who not only went into the far country of Death and Hell to secure the Keys of Death and Hell, but also into Heaven to take His Blood and to sprinkle it upon the Mercy Seat so that by His confidence and Blood, we might access the Throne of Grace with boldness. Jesus went into the far country to receive a Kingdom. In this Parable, the LORD gave the same measure of His Humility to every one of His ten servants. There were some other people there who were citizens—the Jews—who continued to say, “We will not have this man to rule over us.” Since the citizens hated Jesus, they also hated His Treasure and His possession that He had committed unto his servants. Therefore, some of His servants were ashamed and one of them wrapped up the pound that he had been given and did not use it because he saw the hatred of the citizens, and he did not want to suffer persecution and humiliation.

Our flesh does not enjoy suffering; yet, this strange Treasure of Jesus’ Humility has the Power to work just as yeast works until it has moved throughout our whole being and has devoured that old spirit of our pride of reputation, fame, and honour that makes us draw back. Out of the ten servants, only two of them used the Treasure of Jesus’ Humility that He had committed unto their hands. One of them gained ten pounds, and one of them gained five pounds. These two servants were given rulership in the Millennium Reign. With this Parable, Jesus showed His Disciples that the price for their ruling and reigning with Him was for them to suffer with Him. If we want to reign with Jesus, we must fellowship His sufferings.
