This lesson continues the study of the Spiritual Tabernacle. It reviews the first Statute on the Candlestick side of Moses’ Tabernacle and gives the second Statute. In Matthew 5:48, Jesus gave the first Statute, which was the Divine Standard of Perfection: “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect” (Matthew 5:48). We really must humble ourselves and allow Jesus’ Humility to be formed in us in order for us to accept the Divine Standard of Perfection. In Matthew 5:43 through 47, Jesus gave the second Statute, which is Universal Love. This lesson covers the stature of God’s Universal Love, which is: (1) Love Your Enemies, (2) Bless Them that Curse You, (3) Do Good to Them that Hate You, and (4) Pray for Them which Despitefully Use You and Persecute You. Jesus gave God as our example. He said, “The LORD sends the rain upon the just and the unjust.”

We do not have God’s Universal Love in perfection. Greater measures of His Nature and His Word must be formed in our lives so that we can obey this Statute and so that when we do pray for our enemies, we do not pray judgment upon them. We have only a portion of this Love that belongs to God; nevertheless, as we press on in our spiritual journey, we cry daily for the LORD to increase His Love in us. To the Apostle Paul, Jesus said, “[M]y strength is made perfect in weakness ...” (II Corinthians 12:9); therefore, if we will go to the LORD and confess our weakness and confess that we believe His Promise that His Power and Grace are sufficient, we will find ourselves being able to do what we could not do otherwise.
