This message comes from Acts 2:38 and Hebrews 9:22, which deal with the remission of sins by the shedding of Jesus Christ’s Blood and by the Waters of His Death. The carrying away of the children of Israel’s confessed sins to an uninhabited place by the scapegoat on the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16:10, 21-22) pictured the carrying away of our sins by the River of Jesus’ Blood and Water that was formed as He hung on Calvary’s Cross when the sac around His Heart burst and released the Waters of His Death to join the River of His Blood. That River of Jesus’ cleansing Blood and Water flowed out of Him (John 19:34) for the express purpose of its purchasing the remission of man’s repentant sins—the carrying forth of and the placing of them in the Sea of Forgetfulness behind God’s Back where they are remembered against man no more. The word remission means to send forth, to send away. When we truly confess our sins and repent, then God assumes the responsibility for sending them away. Often, man tries to redeem himself by doing good works, but all of man’s good works can never relieve him of his heavy burden of sin. God has ordained that the sacrificial Blood of Jesus Christ be the vehicle by which man’s sins shall be sent forth or carried behind God’s Back. When Jesus Christ died and went down into Death, Hell, and the Grave, He opened the Waters of His Obedient Death for remission of sins. These happenings are recorded in the Gospels. Later, in Acts 2:38, remission by Water Baptism is mentioned by the Apostle Peter. On the Day of Pentecost, he said, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” This verse shows a further development in the picture of the full stature for remission. The fight over Water Baptism and the Waters of Jesus’ Death has been going on since the Christians in the early Apostolic Age backslid. Since then, man has continued to try to separate the Blood and the Water. Salvation is God’s gift to man through Jesus’ Blood; however, it takes both the Blood and the Waters of His Name, Death, and Life for us to continue to grow in the LORD Jesus Christ’s Spiritual Stature. There is only one Name by which we are to do business, and that is the Name Jesus (Acts 4:12). When, by faith, the baptismal pool is anointed with the Name, Death, and Life of the LORD Jesus Christ, then power of remission is applied to the Water, making it a River for remission. Through the Waters of the LORD Jesus Christ’s Name, Death, and Life, which are applied through Water Baptism and through our daily washing in the Waters of God’s Word, not only are our sinful acts cast into this River of remission, but also our fleshly nature of disobedience that begot our sins in the first place. The remission of our sins comes by our repentance and by our believing and having faith because repentance, faith, and belief are necessary to start the River for remission of sins by Blood and by Water flowing for us.

This lesson also covers the stature of the Four Applications of Blood that were administered by the Priests in the Old Testament. The Blood was: (1) Poured, (2) Sprinkled, (3) Dipped, and (4) Wrung Out. These four applications are also available for us to use today.
