This lesson is taken from Leviticus 23:3-8, Exodus 12:1-22, and Numbers 10:3-10 and covers Israel’s four degrees of rest: (1) The Seventh Day Rest, (2) The Seventh Month Rest, (3) The Seventh Year Rest, and (4) The 50th Year Rest. These four periods of rest picture the Perfect Rest that is found in Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Sabbath Day of the LORD, and Jesus is our Covenant now. Israel kept the Sabbath in different ways, which portrayed the LORD. Their keeping the Sabbath Day pictured Jesus as the Perfect Rest of God. We do not have to lift our finger, as it were, for Salvation. When Jesus died upon the Cross of Calvary, He cried, “It is finished.” There was nothing that you or I could do to add to God’s Rest. The Apostle Paul said: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8,9). The more that we go on with the LORD and fall in love with Him and the more faith and love that we have in our heart, the better rest we have in our mind and heart. As we continue to be acquainted with Jesus as the Seventh Day, the Seventh Month, the Seventh Year, and the 50th Year, we enter into that stature of Perfect Rest.
This lesson also covers Israel’s seven feasts: (1) The Passover, (2) Unleavened Bread, (3) Firstfruits, (4) Pentecost, (5) Trumpets, (6) Day of Atonement, and (7) Tabernacles.
